Freaks!

Listen up, because it’s time for another HUGE announcement for FREAK VALLEY FESTIVAL 2018!

We’ve been working like mad to put together the best festival possible this year and all you have to do to see that is take a gander at the list of names below. There’s a little something for everyone this time around, so let’s get to it!

Please welcome Sumac, Mars Red Sky, Sacri Monti, Lucifer, Purple Hill Witch, Kaleidobolt, and Humulus to the Freak Valley 2018 lineup!

SUMAC

Few bands ever truly push the boundaries of what we think of as extreme, but SUMAC seem to do nothing else. Across their two full-lengths, 2015’S The Deal and 2016’s What One Becomes, the outfit led by Aaron Turner (ex-ISIS) and featuring Baptists drummer Nick Yacyshyn and Russian Circles bassist Brian Cook drove post-metal to some of its farthest reaches yet, and their 2018 collaboration with none other than Keiji Haino, American Dollar Bill – Keep Facing Sideways, You’re too Hideous to Look at Face On? Well, yeah. If you think you’re ready, good luck with that.

Mars Red Sky

Bordeaux’s chief psychedelic export MARS RED SKY have become an institution unto themselves in blending heavy tones and unearthly melodies to an affect like none other. Their latest album, Apex III (Praise for the Burning Soul), came out in 2016 and brought the trio of Julien Pras, Jimmy Kinast and Matgaz to new levels of cosmic heft and progressivism. Anytime you get the chance to see Mars Red Sky, you should, and as they get ready to move into their next stage and new material, anticipate something special when they come to Freak Valley.

SACRI MONTI

Part of a righteous movement of heavy psychedelia and primo jamming taking place in their hometown of San Diego, California, Tee Pee Records rockers SACRI MONTI boast members of Radio Moscow in their ranks and most recently took part in a killer three-way split with like-minded SoCal natives Harsh Toke and Joy that found them covering Atomic Rooster and truly capturing the unhinged energy of the heavy ‘70s at its best. Expect no less when they take the Freak Valley stage.

LUCIFER

One does not summon LUCIFER lightly. Fronted by Johanna Sadonis, formerly of The Oath, and with Robin Tidebrink (also Saturn) on guitar, Lucifer recently revamped its lineup, bringing in Nicke Andersson of The Hellacopters, Entombed, Death Breath, and so many others to complete a core trio that will continue the propaganda march for the forces of darkness. Could 2018 be the year Lucifer II is unveiled at last? Nothing to do but pray.

Purple Hill Witch

Hail Norwegian doom! Purple Hill Witch issued their second album, Celestial Cemetery, last year on Church Within Records, and with it reminded Freaks everywhere what it’s all about: Riffs, darkness and misery. With tracks like “Ghouls in Leather” and “Harbinger of Death” they tapped into classic metal vibes that we just knew we had to bring to the Valley in 2018. Hope you’ve got room for a new patch on your battle vest, because these guys demand that real estate, no questions asked.

KALEIDOBOLT

Acrobatic Finnish rockers KALEIDOBOLT toured Europe last Fall under the tutelage of Radio Moscow and played festivals like Up in Smoke and Desertfest Belgium, and we’re absolutely stoked to bring them to Freak Valley for the first time in 2018 as they continue to support their second album, The Zenith Cracks, on Pink Tank Records. These guys may have been flying a little under the radar so far, but they’ve been winning converts steadily all along and look for their reputation to continue to precede them as they hit Siegen this Spring.

Humulus

The Italian beer guzzlers’ appearance at Freak Valley 2018 is sponsored by Rockblog.Bluesspot, and HUMULUS hit our stage on the heels of their 2017 album, Reverently Heading into Nowhere. Having toured Germany late last year, the trio of guitarist/vocalist Andrea van Cleef, bassist Giorgio Bonacore and drummer Massimilliano Boventi will slam into our stage like a rhino at full charge, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
